GENTLEMAN FROM ČOMOLUNGMY

Around noon, two climbers May 29, 1953, Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgej0, came to the top of Mount Everest and held there for fifteen minutes. Like all conquerors, they shook hands, made the shots and saw the opening on top, and then headed back. And there, at the bottom, they had new life. In particular, it belonged to the Tencingu. He went on to assault Everest a mere human, and came back a hero. And he, like many others before it, had to learn all the joys and all the tests associated with the title of hero.
In the West it is hard to imagine what it means today, Tenzing for people of the East. Begs comparison with Charles Lindberg, however, even Lindbergh in the prime of his fame has not been the subject of genuine worship. Meanwhile, Tenzing in the eyes of millions of inhabitants of the East--the living embodiment of a deity, Shiva or Buddha. For the other million, experienced enough, to not confuse people with the gods, he is exceptionally outstanding mortal man. Literally and figuratively Tenzing, ascending Everest, climbed to the sky; in fact, he was the first in the history of Asian people of simple people, who gained worldwide fame and glory. Asians saw his feat not only victory over the greatest peak, but a bright omen for themselves and their entire race. Today, the name Tencinga was included in the tales and songs that can be heard in all corners of the East. Today it is covered with legends and myths.
Here he is standing in the snow in the oxygen mask--Tenzing-hero, legendary Tenzing, impersonal character movest up flags on the top of the Earth. It is quite possible that this image is stored in the memory of people. However, oxygen mask and soft feather clothing, hides and other Tenzing--this is Tencinge and not about all the voshvalâemom winner tells it in his book. "I remain all the same old Tencingom," he concludes. And this is true for our happiness, because "old Tenzing", not "legendary", not "famous", is in itself remarkable personality.
The Conqueror of Mount Everest describe usually also, but this is incorrect. Perhaps it seems so close to the towering Hillary; in fact, Tenzing is strong, in proportion to the folded man is above average growth. The word "homely" does not apply to his mental warehouse. No it not narrow or limited, nor the provincialism--nothing of what was bind the idea of rustic resident or Gorce. The same can be said about all appreciably tribe Sherpas. Sherpas are the easiest way of life and most of them are illiterate (as there is no šerpskoj writings), however due to the special nature of the work and long-standing contacts with the outside world, they became the color of Himalayan Highlanders. Tenzing--the color of this color, it has a pleasant appearance, the folding shape. The person moving, eyes clear, vibrant and sharp tongue and wit, charming smile. Let him drink--tea or Sherpa Chang, he himself champagne. With a light and easy soul, he rages. He is the elusive quality that can be called rock.
Now many have traveled Tenzing. He learned the different countries and different languages. He likes good food, good clothes, comfortable life, cheerful company. He is very inquisitive and greedy for new impressions. However, some acquired Tencingom habits did not prevent him to keep intact its natural qualities. There is no hint of falsity and čvanlivost′ that so often accompany a sudden success. "Old" and "new" Tenzing equally different tact and sense of dignity, courtesy and generosity, not only is he a born climber, but innate gentleman.
In his new home in Darjeeling. Behind all the wife-Tencinga-Ang Lamu, complete, girly smešlivaâ, moving woman with Eagle eyes. With them are two daughters, two nieces, some sisters and zyatev, yes even in the House are the guests and relatives of these guests, who come and go as they please. Dogs everywhere. On the tables and walls-albums, scrapbooks, photos, commemorative items. Often, top, from the second floor, are prayerful singing and ringing Bell: there is a Buddhist Chapel, which is one of the zyatev, Lama. In the first floor at any time of the day be sure someone is drinking tea. And in the middle of it all, Tenzing himself busy, friendly, a bit embarrassed by all the changes. Sometimes it seems that he speaks multiple languages. His dark eyes shine, sparkle with strong white teeth. You instinctively pay attention to these teeth, because he often smiles.
Often, but not always. Sometimes a smile comes to his face. The outside world invades his home persistently, inexorably: crowds of admirers are too obtrusive. Preklonâûŝiesâ curious and envious, and seekers of wealth surrounded by a solid ring Tencinga
