 History

Australian cattle horse evolved through purposeful breeding that meets the requirements of the environment. History of the breed started in 1788g. with the advent of the first fleet, which brought the first horses in the colony of new South Wales, then known throughout Australia. These horses were descended from English Thoroughbred riding and Spanish; subsequent imports included more Thoroughbred, Arabian horses  and Welsh mountain ponies.
Arriving in the colony of horses had to be sily and Hardy-not only to withstand long sea journey (which lasted from nine to twelve months), but also for the unusual, undeveloped, pristine environment, which has become their new home. For the crossing of the blue mountains, where settlers ventured to move inland steel needed strong and reliable horse. Researchers, the shepherds, the settlers, the fugitive criminals and police officers riding – all they needed horses, on which day by day to travel over long distances. The weak horse , and only the strongest specimens were used to derive strong horses that are so necessary for the development of the colony.

In describing the mixed origin of these horses, we can say that they have evolved into a strong and handsome type who eventually was named the "whaler", on behalf of the colony of new South Wales. Bern in his work "the twelve years of wandering to the British colonies (since 1848) wrote: ...racehorses, is currently used in Australia, the surprise world harmony and endurance. It's hard to say for sure whether their excretion of large amounts of imported queen bees of Chile and Peru, purebred Arabian stallions from India and also from England and the Cape of good hope. Much of the difficulty was overcome when breeding these animals, but the were duly rewarded. "

English Trooper, R.M.P. Preston, in his book "the Cavalry of the deserts" describes the strength and morale of Australian horses.Cavalry Division covers approximately 170 miles ... and I got my horses on average once every 36 hours. Weakened their pretty intense heat and reduced rations, 9 and a half pounds of grain per day without bulky fodder. Indeed, the heavy testing, Stojko migrated some horses may seem incredible. One of the panels of the Australian Cavalry Division was able to poison the horses only three times in the past 9 days – recurring intervals were 68, 72 and 76 hours respectively, and on arrival was lost from exhaustion just 8 horses. Most of the horses in military buildings were uèlery, and not subject to doubt, that these brave Australian horses have provided the best Cavalry in the world. " It is sad that only one whaler returned from war; many of them were killed in battle, or shot to guarantee that they do not fall into the hands of the Arabs or the Egyptians.

It was really a great tragedy to Australian breeders, so when their horses. While a lot of good breeding material left Australia and never returned, the huge supply has not affected the population of horses in their homeland. In 1906. in Australia it was 1765186 horses, and in 1918, when the census showed 5030479 people, the horses were 2527149 goals.

After the first world war, despite the recognition of the Australian horse as a typical sustainable type, there was no registry or stud book. Mechanization and initial industrialization has reduced the need for workers riding up to 60, while interest in horses has not been raised. This revival proceeded from growing in obŝeste free time. In 1971. at the Sydney Royal Show, Mister Alex Braid from Wellington, new South Wales, and Mr Bert Griffith from  gathered a group of enthusiasts to discuss education society. In June 1971. about 100 people met in  are produced to start activities of the society of Australian Shepherd's horse, finally has its home-grown breed of horses which earned and recognized, and its organization.

The first step was the appointment of classifiers who assessed the horses presented for inspection. For inclusion in the  Australian Shepherd's horse, the horse must score at least 50 points out of 100 possible; stallions and mares are a little less than 50 points. The maximum number of points in the evaluation consists of 60 for the exterior, 20-for-20 for the origins and abilities. The society spread rapidly and soon formed branches in Queensland, South Australia and the northern territory. Movement reached Victoria in 1973. and, later, Western Australia and Tasmania. In 1979. the number of members has increased from the initial 12 hundreds to thousands and inspectors society adopted more than 40 thousand. horses for registration.
